Technological innovations in the LCD industry occur at a faster pace than in any other industry. In response to the rapid technology developments in the flat panel display industry, LG Electronics' Central Research Institute conducted research on TFT technology in 1987 and later established the Anyang R&D Center in April 1990. The Anyang R&D Center is regarded as the "birthplace of the TFT-LCD industry" in Korea. LG Display developed its business in technology independently.
